EC Receives "Big Lift" For Elevator project

Recently, Elyria Catholic High School applied to the Secretariat for Catechetical Formation and Education’s Expanding the Educational Landscape grant program that is part of the "Rooted in Faith—Forward in Hope" Campaign for assistance to install an elevator in the school.

It is with great joy and a deep sense of gratitude that I share with our entire Elyria Catholic High School community that a $30,000 facilities grant was afforded EC for this direly needed capital improvement. Access to the second floor has been a challenge for many students, family members, and visitors over the years. Next year a student challenged by cerebral palsy will now be able to don the EC green and white because this project has become a reality.

We owe a debt of gratitude for the tremendous effort and generosity to all of the parishes in our Diocese and especially to the many donors who made the Rooted in Faith—Forward in Hope Campaign such a successful endeavor. As you may know, $40 million of the campaign goal has been committed to Catholic education. EC and its students and families have been truly blessed by the generosity of all who committed to the RIF Campaign.

In addition to the facilities grant provided by the campaign, additional funds for the completion of the lift were made by the Office of Catechetical Formation and Education, and the Ridge Tool Company in Elyria. Thank you to all parties for assisting Elyria Catholic in aspiring to the mandates of our mission.

1997 Elyria Catholic graduate Adam Grimm was recently in town to show off his winning 2014 Ohio wetlands habitat stamp at the 36th annual Ohio Decoy Collectors & Carvers Association show in Strongsville. At 21, Adam became the youngest artist to ever win the Federal Duck Stamp Contest despite a field of the country's premier water fowl artists. Alternative Spring Break
A group of 32 EC students and 4 chaperones traveled to Toms River New Jersey on an alternative spring break trip to assist rescue efforts following Hurricane Sandy. The group’s efforts were focused on two key projects. First, students ...worked on an eco-reclamation project to help restore key parts of the shoreline that were eroded as a result of Hurricane Sandy. The project largely involved replanting grass, trees, and shrubbery that were washed away in the storm but are essential to the local environment. Second, students worked on houses that were damaged during the storm but still have not been properly repaired.  Elyria Catholic extends its heartfelt gratitude to the FCSLA (First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association) for their generous support of our Alternative Spring Break.  Visit the EC facebook page to view all of the photos from the week!
